Deep Bodywork® 1
Spine, Shoulders & Hips
Current & Upcoming Offerings

The Deep Bodywork® program is offered in collaboration with Jingni Wang.
Next workshop: January 2027
About This Workshop
The spine, lower back, and hips form the structural foundation of the body and influence how we stand, move, breathe, and transfer force throughout the entire system. Restrictions in these regions often affect far more than the area where discomfort is experienced.
In this workshop, you’ll explore practical approaches for working with the deeper fascial and muscular structures of the back and pelvis, including the erector spinae, quadratus lumborum, psoas, piriformis, and the intrinsic muscles that stabilize the spine. You’ll also investigate the functional relationships between the lumbar spine, sacrum, pelvis, and hips, and how these structures influence one another in movement and support.
Working in prone, supine, and side-lying positions, you’ll learn precise methods for approaching common patterns of tension and restricted mobility while refining your ability to distinguish tissue layers and adapt your touch to the body’s response. Rather than relying on pressure alone, you’ll explore how depth can emerge through gravity, precise body mechanics, and responsive touch.
What you’ll explore
Throughout the workshop, demonstrations, guided practice, and partner exchanges will help you integrate both anatomical understanding and refined hands-on skills.
You’ll explore:
Working with the deeper structures of the back, lumbar spine, and pelvis
Functional relationships between the spine, hips, and surrounding fascial networks
Practical approaches for addressing common patterns of restriction affecting the lower back and pelvis
Layer-by-layer differentiation of tissue using forearms, elbows, and other appropriate tools
Working efficiently through gravity and sustainable body mechanics
Recognizing tissue response and adapting depth, direction, and pace accordingly
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is designed for experienced massage therapists, bodyworkers, and manual practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of the spine, lower back, and hips through the official Deep Bodywork® approach.
Previous professional training in massage or bodywork is required. The workshop is intended for practitioners who are already comfortable working hands-on and would like to expand both their anatomical understanding and their ability to work with greater precision and sensitivity.
What you’ll take with you
You’ll leave the workshop with practical techniques that can be integrated immediately into your existing work, along with a deeper understanding of the relationships between the spine, pelvis, and hips.
More importantly, you’ll continue developing the ability to distinguish tissue layers, recognize functional patterns of restriction, and create depth through precise body mechanics rather than force. Many practitioners find that this not only expands their therapeutic possibilities but also makes their own work feel more sustainable and effortless.

Continue Your Learning
Deep Bodywork® I is one of five workshops within the official Deep Bodywork® learning pathway. Each workshop explores a different region of the body while continuing to deepen the same principles of anatomical precision, responsive touch, and embodied presence.
You may continue with any of the other Deep Bodywork® workshops as they become available. Together, the five workshops form the complete curriculum leading toward certification as a Deep Bodywork® Practitioner.
